We get asked a lot where we find our natural wooden bowls and baskets for our centre presentation in our classroom. They are really easy to find, you just have to keep a close eye out for them! In this post, I am going to tell you exactly where we find 90% of our stuff.
It's no huge secret... it's all about the thrift stores! We have several different thrift stores around my area that we check out on a regular basis. Once you know where to go in the store, its a quick 5 minutes in and out adventure for you! Keep in mind, thrift stores can be very hit and miss. There are times I will go and find absolutely nothing and then other times, I hit the wooden jackpot!
So.. where to go?
Value Village is the number one spot for us. Some Value Villages are better than others! Once you get a feel of your local store... you'll know which ones to go to and which ones not to bother with. Check out the wooden decor section for all your bowls and trays. For the baskets, they are usually above one of the clothing racks.
Talize is another local thrift store. This one is more hit and miss than Value Village. The wooden bowls and baskets are located in the furniture section.
Another great place to find presentation items for your centres is Dollarama! You have to be creative here. A lot of wooden items can be found in Spring down the garden aisle. You'll also be able to find grass patches and other great items.
I love shopping at thrift stores for wooden decor because it is so cheap! As educators, we spend so much of our own money on our classrooms so it's refreshing to be able to find things that are so pretty at a minimum cost!
I hope this helps you in your future wooden decor ventures! Be patient and know that you will find something, somewhere at sometime :). They are out there!
As always - have fun, be creative and enjoy!
